BIOGRAPHY - PABLO GALDO


Praised by legendary pianist, Martha Argerich, as “a brilliant pianist with whom I shared the stage,” Galician pianist, Pablo Galdo, is one of the most sought out concert pianists of his generation. 

Winner of the 2020 Galician of the Year award, Mr. Galdo enjoys one of the most diverse and versatile artistic careers in modern days. Founder of the Vigo International Piano Competition and artistic director of the Ferrol International Piano Competition, Mr. Galdo has also been the Director of the Galician Classical Music Association since 2016. 

Mr. Galdo’s career has taken him to concertise in France, Greece, Portugal, Costa Rica, Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Iceland, China, South Korea, Russia, Slovenia, Australia, Ukraine, Croatia, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland, Oman, Kuwait, Italy, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Cyprus, Lebanon, the Republic of Iran, Lithuania, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and the United States, Spain, Hungary, Germany, and Austria.

In addition to performing, Mr.Galdo holds a busy schedule of teaching master classes all over the world, in places such as Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Frederic Chopin University in Warsaw, Academy of Arts of Iceland, Buchmann-Mehta School in Israel, Istanbul State Conservatory, Tbilisi State Conservatory, Music Academy of Baku, ESMAE University in Porto, Barenboim-Said Foundation in Palestine, National Conservatory of Jordan, National Conservatory of Lebanon, Verona Conservatory of Music, Academy of Music and Theater of Vilnius in Lithuania, Yahsar University in Izmir in Turkey, Macedonian University in Thessaloniki, Greece, Kharkiv National University of Arts, National Music Academy of Estonia, Sydney Conservatory of Music, National University of Kazakhstan, Costa Rica National University, Superior School of Music of Neuquén in Argentina, University of Music and Theatre of Timisoara, and in various music institutions across Spain. He is a regular guest professor at the International Music Academy, Forum Musikae, in Madrid, International Piano Festival in Costa Rica, Talent Music Summer Courses and Festival in Brescia, Malta Classical Music Academy in Malta, and the Altalena Music Festival in Hungary. Mr Galdo has also served as a jury member for several international competitions in Spain, China, Germany, the United States, Costa Rica, and Norway. 

Mr. Galdo has also been invited on more than one occasions to perform side by side - both 4 hands and two pianos - with legendary pianist  Martha Argerich, Zoltán Kocsis, Stephen Kovacevich, Lilya Zilberstein, Tamás Vásáry, Cyprien Katsaris, Philippe Entremont, Jorge Luis Prats, Imre Rohmann, Sergio Tiempo, and András Kemenes, with cellist Asier Polo, violist Rocío Gomez, and with baritone Luis Alberto Llaneza.

Among Mr.Galdo’s recent recordings are, a DVD, produced by IRIS, of works by Albéniz, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, a CD produced by MANS with works of Bach, Chopin, and Liszt, and another CD produced by MANS with works of Albéniz. He has also recorded for Spanish Television, Galician Television, and Hungarian Radio. The composer Saúl Chapela dedicated his piano composition, 22 variations on two cells, to Mr. Galdo.

Mr. Galdo currently combines his concert activity with his positions as piano professor at the Superior Conservatory of Music in A Coruña in Galicia, Spain, and at Superior Center Katarina Gurska and University of Alfonso X the Wise, both in Madrid. Among his students are prize winners of both national and international piano competitions.

Among Mr. Galdo’s recent awards are the Gregorio Baudot Prize - for his artistic career (2016), the Gold Badge of Ferrol (2018), and the silver medal at the Global Music Awards in the category of classical pianist and instrumentalist (2017 and 2018). 

Pablo Galdo was born in Ferrol, La Coruña. He studied at the ‘Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo,’ where he graduated with special distinction and honors. Mr.Galdo also attended the University de Alcalá de Henares, Zoltán Kodály Institute, Franz Liszt Academy of Budapest, Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he obtained his Postgraduate Diploma, and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Russia. His professors included Nicasio Gradaille, Ferenc Rados, Rita Wagner, András Kemenes, Imre Rohmann, and Elisso Virsaladze.

 Mr. Galdo has studied with many renowned and prestigious international masters, including Alicia de Larrocha, Zoltán Kocsis, Tamás Vasáry, Dimitri Bashkirov, Várjon Dénes, Heinz Kämmerling, Marta Gulyás, Haewon Song, and Almudena Cano.
